Saturday 12th July Forecast is good (6 -10WSW) tide is a good time (HW 0645) we can clear the Cherry Stones before mid ebb (if not, hang on until we get opposite CG Station) then see if we can find the bream at Langland where others have failed. Then after a couple of hours of flood a drift up the Mixon Shoal to see if we can tag a turbot then if you have the bottle for it try off Bobs Cave to see if the plaice are at home. Then around the corner off the ILB slip & set a long drift across the bay towards home, hopefully arriving home with a decent "fry" apiece. NOTE! no mention of tope, or smoothounds, or huss, or rays, or congers, (any of those will be purely coincidental) Get you names down for this trip, Only 5 tickets left Book early to avoid disappointment The xc weather forecast is good for the entire "flexible" period (Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues) so lets not waste good tides, & a good forecast, get your name down & lets go fishing!

As an added bonus, along with the "flexible trips" I am adding hot drinks to the menu, I have obtained a single ring burner which will be mounted inside the wheelhouse, & the rubber pipe will go through the wheelhouse wall to a small (2.7kg canister sat outside) So we can boil a kettle, & fry bacon & sausages for some more creature comforts. If that doesn't tempt you, then I don't know what will? Lapdancers maybe? lol

I wish I knew the answer too, I know many members are still working & therefore cant just take time off to go fishing, but even weekends seem undersubscribed too? I have tried "flexible trips" when the tides are suitable to go to the limit of the Belle's range, but don't forget that ANY day we can fish in the bay as long as we have water in the river to get out, & we don't have a "hooligan" wind. In my book any day when the sun rises, is a good day to go fishing, so if my suggested days don't suit you then tell me which ones do, & we will chug our way out & see if we can get a feed.

A good forecast, a good tide, & what I considered a good plan, are no use without anglers? I have offered a selection of days when the tides are right, so that hopefully we get at least one day out of the selected 3,4, or 5 "flexible" days. I can understand a situation where the forecast prevents the trip that is "Sod's Law" but to lose a trip on a perfect tide, with a perfect forecast, is depressing! Lets hope the response is better on the next set of "flexible days" (12th to 15th July) or if the "flexible days" concept doesn't suit, can somebody come up with a better idea, & post it on this forum, so we can see what it is & discuss it, rather than just not support an initiative. The Amroth shore fishing trip was off because the weather forecast was so good, that few if any fish could be expected, the opposite would have been case on Mumbles Belle!

The wind is forecast to be from WNW & NNW at ~ 8mph on Saturday which will be reduced, because it is blowing from off the land, it should be possible to fish Langland comfortably for bream etc on the last 3 hrs of the ebb, then come up on the flood to fish around Mumbles Head, SWIGG, & a final drift across the bay for flatfish & maybe a bass or two on the way home. Get your name down if you are interested, & don't forget to take your feathers! Vic Lilygreen
CONFIRMATION The forecast for Saturday is favourable to take Mumbles Belle to sea, with HW at 07.48 we will have a bit of ebb to help us down toward Langland, & with light NW winds, & being only about an hour into the ebb when we pass Mumbles Point, the Cherry Stones should not offer any problems. We will initially try for bream on the reef, or if the weather is exceptional try a few drifts over the White Oyster Ledge. On the first of the flood I will attempt to catch some plaice at a spot I know where they tend to favour mackerel strip as opposed to worm bait, then as our "Swan Song" come into Mumbles off the inshore lifeboat slip, & set a drift across the bay hopefully following the line of flood along the depth contour & inside the dredged channel & hopefully pick up a few more flatfish, & maybe a bass or two before we head in to lock-in at 16.30. Please put your names down asap as time is short & we don't want to miss this window. What we catch is irrelevant, providing it is superior in quality to what "Oystercat" catches! Vic Lilygreen

Unfortunately the weather has upset my plans for my first "flexible trip", by being suitable to go the day before the "window", but unsuitable for the next 4 days! So unless I can get 3/4 anglers by Tuesday morning (24th June) the first flexible period looks scrubbed! It is possible that the weather might change later on in the week, & if it looks as if it will then get your names down for Saturday (28th June). Otherwise we will have lost this series of suitable tides, & we will have to either fight the tide to get down to Langland until 12th July, or be satisfied with honing our angling skills in Swansea Bay.

Because Mumbles Bell is vastly different to Oystercat, then the possibility of a trip being called off because of inclement weather, is much greater on Belle than it is on the cat. Therefore I have proposed that instead of nominating a particular day, well in advance, only to find that on that particular day the weather is bad & the trip has to called off, we have nominated "choice days", when we select the best day according to the weather forecast, & that will be the trip day. Let us say that I nominate Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as potential trip days (chosen because they are they best tides to allow us to go as far as we can sensibly go) It could well be that Monday & Tuesday are poor, Wednesday is improving, & Thursday is suitable, then the "trip day" will be Thursday. The only problem I see with this will be bait (especially worm) My only contribution to this, is that Swansea Tackle & Bait are open early in the morning, & we can delay lock out until bait is collected, I am sure we can solve this problem, & although the suitable day may not suit everybody, we should get a trip on one of the "choice days". I propose to give this a try for a couple of months & see how it goes. On any other day, that is not entered on the calendar as a "choice day" Mumbles Belle can be booked as normal, but because the tides will be unfavourable then we will be restricted to fishing in Swansea Bay, which could well hone our angling skills, as well as try our patience. We will give these proposals a couple of months to evaluate them, by which time the whiting & codling & dabs should be about in numbers, then Mumbles Belle should be perfect for frequent jumbo whiting trips to the Green Grounds.
